Membership
The council consists of five members appointed by the Board.  One member must be a licensed physician who has been or is currently consulting with licensed traditional midwives from a list of names submitted by the Minnesota Council of Certified Professional Midwives or its successors; three members must be licensed traditional midwives from a list submitted by Midwifery Now and the Minnesota Council of Certified Professional Midwives or their successors; and one member must be a parent of a child born under the care of a licensed traditional midwife from a list of names submitted by Minnesota Families for Midwifery or its successors.

Entity Powers and Duties, Activity Summary
The council advises the Board of Medical Practice on traditional midwifery practice standards in application, complaint and disciplinary processes; continuing education programs; and enforcement of traditional midwifery laws; and provides for distribution of information regarding practice standards.

ACTIVITY SUMMARY

The council reviews information included in applications for licensure and complaints against members of the profession.  The advisory council provides professional expertise on the profession, advises the Board and staff in administration of statutes, participates in administrative and investigative processes, and makes recommendations to the Board and its Committees for resolution of disclosures on applications and complaint investigations.
